2006-2007 Goals
1.
Work with existing industry to identify issues affecting the business
environment of the county, nurture small business, and small business start-ups.
Review reports associated with 2005-2006 e-Synchronist interviews. Organize a
group from within the ICDC board to work toward resolving issues identified
within the report.
Host quarterly meetings for plant managers
Make at least three corporate headquarter visits
Host at least two on-site appreciation meals for local industry.
Invite one local manufacturing representative each month to the ICDC board
meeting. This will work as an additional tool to acquaint these manufacturing
representatives with the purpose and importance of being involved with the ICDC.
2.
Create 100 New Industrial Jobs through retention and expansion of
existing industry, nurturing small business and small business start-ups, and
recruitment of industrial concern.

ICDC’s key objective is long-term
job creation and private sector investment. We will do this by sustaining
and increasing opportunities for more and better jobs, paying 125% of the per
capita income or more.
3.
Increase business and industrial development.
§
Speculative Committee will identify additional industrial sites
within Itawamba County.
§
Formulate legal documents and have an option contract available
for land which is selected by the speculative committee as desirable for
industrial development.
§
Have environmental reports and site layouts available for all
industrial land which the ICDC has marketing rights.
§
Work with local municipalities to recruit retail business.
Assist as needed with zoning and ordinance development.
§
TVA meeting for elected officials, “This is economic development.”
This will act as a primer for newly elected officials and a refresher for those
who have held office.
§
Redevelop and update ICDC website
4.
Develop an effective multimodal transportation system that will
accelerate economic development.
§
Position Port Itawamba as a regional intermodal logistics
and public warehouse center.
§
Work with area developers to market water transportation as a more
efficient/cost effective mode of transportation to regional manufacturers, i.e.
furniture.
§
Work with local industry to increase activity at Port Itawamba
§
Make at least 10 sales calls to regional industry.
§
Continuing education class for Port employees (Two annually)
5.
Insure that Itawamba has the workforce to retain and attract economic
opportunities for present and future generations.
§
Continue ongoing efforts to critically evaluate and improve the
quality of
labor available in Itawamba County.
§
Work with private and public sectors to assist in developing
quality activities dealing specifically with overall education quality,
school-to-work programming and workforce training.
§
Meet with the Itawamba County School Board and Itawamba Community
College to discuss the findings of the e-Synchronist report as they relate to
education.
6.
Grow and nurture the community through community development activities.
§
Monitor and address the needs of Itawamba by hosting small
business development seminars, local Farmer’s Market, partnering with other
community groups to host workshops, etc.
§
Work with local municipalities on downtown revitalization and main
street attractiveness programs.
§
Host a class of Leadership Itawamba
§
Work with local civic groups and area healthcare providers to
organize a healthcare initiative team in Itawamba County. Host at minimum three healthcare
related projects.
§
Participate in other activities, as available, which will promote
the betterment of Itawamba County.
§
Increase resident and business involvement by increasing number of
ICDC members by 5%.
7.
Provide a legislative voice and advocate for Itawamba County and her
people.
§
Work to educate the local community on government related issues,
provide information to the community, and provide a single community voice to
state and federal branches of government.
§
Hold quarterly meetings with the Council of Governments to address
issues as they arise within the county
